Play-By-Play: to describe the action, tell the stories, and capture the drama

Historical Broadcasts
I've had the pleasure of calling a dozen different sports over the years: baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, swimming, diving, gymnastics, soccer, wrestling, softball, tennis, and even --- for the Olympics in 2016 --- race walking and shooting.
Here is a random sampling, in no particular order, of broadcasts in various sports from over the years. Most of these are fairly recent, as it's what I have access to, but a few are older. Others could be added as I run across them in the future.
October 18, 2024 NBA Basketball
Portland Trail Blazers Telecast
In October of 2024, I again worked with my good friend and Blazers analyst Lamar Hurd to call Portland's preseason game against Utah --- the first-ever game on the new Rip City TV Network.
August 2016 Olympic Swimming
NBC Olympics: Swimming
In the summer of 2016, I got to all all the Olympic swim events for NBC's 4K channel, working with three-time Olympic gold medalist Brendan Hansen. Here is a sampling.
March 2016 Multiple Sports
Six-Sport Demo from 2016
This one's a little older, and it's representative of where I was just a few years after branching out into sports other than baseball, basketball and football.
This compilation has clips from volleyball, wrestling, diving, gymnastics and swimming. I put it together as a demo for NBC in my efforts to land a play-by-play gig for the 2016 Olympics. It worked.
March 2019 College Baseball
First-Ever Baseball Game at T-Mobile Park
Yes, the headline is a little bit of a trick. This telecast, from March of 2019, was indeed the first-ever baseball game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle... under its new name. (Of course, under the name Safeco Field, it had been the home of the Seattle Mariners since July, 1999.)
Kevin Stocker and I had fun with this one, in a game between Oregon State and Coastal Carolina, two schools that had recently won the College World Series.
May 18, 2024 Pac-12 Network Adieu
Pac-12 Network Final Sign-Off
In May of 2024, I called my 541st and final event for Pac-12 Network, I believe the second-most of any play-by-play announcer over the network's 12 years. Here is how I signed off.
March 3, 2023 Men's College Swimming
Leon Marchand Swims Fastest 400-yard IM Ever
Leon Marchand of France was unquestionably one of the biggest stars of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Seventeen months earlier, he had this swim at the Pac-12 Championships, swimming the fastest 400-yard Individual Medley in history. Note that in the post-race interview, I asked him what it would mean to stand atop the medal stand at the Olympic Games in his home nation. Turns out he would do just that, four times.
This was my 10th year (of 11) working with one of my favorite analysts, six-time Olympic gold medalist Amy Van Dyken, at the Pac-12 Championships.
January 7, 2012 Men's College Basketball
"It's Gotta Be The Shoe"
This game between Stanford and Oregon State went quadruple overtime... and it's not even the most memorable thing about the game.
In the first half, Oregon State guard Roberto Nelson did something which I'm confident you will never see again (and about which, I'm surprised, a bigger deal was never made... it should be on every basketball blooper reel). Analyst Lamar Hurd and I had some fun with it.
October 2010 College Football
Arizona State at Oregon State Football
From October 2010, a segment of the third quarter of a game in Corvallis between ASU and OSU. Steve Preece and Jason Gesser were the analysts. Though football was not a primary sport of mine during my 12 years (and 541 game broadcasts) with Pac-12 Network, this demo helped me get on board with them.
September 2010 Triple-A baseball
Portland Beavers Baseball Highlights 2008-2010
I had the pleasure of calling the TV and radio play-by-play for the Triple-A Portland Beavers from 2001-2010. The final three of those years --- 2008-2010 --- more than 50 games aired across five states on Fox Sports Net Northwest, the same network that carried the Seattle Mariners. Former major league pitcher Scott Anderson was my broadcast partner for probably 45 of those games.
Here is a selection of highlights, including a clip of me singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame while throwing out peanuts and Cracker Jack.
July 2009 Triple-A baseball
2009 Triple-A All-Star Game
On July 15, 2009, the Triple-A All-Star Game was played at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. I teamed up with analyst Eric Young Sr. and sideline reporter John Manuel to call the game on ESPN. (I don't know the entity that posted this game on YouTube, but thank you!)
