This is another question I get all the time. Yes, most of our guys either have gotten a chance, or will get a chance to play in the major leagues. Without doing an exhaustive study, I’d say at least half of the guys who spend time in Triple-A during their careers also see action in the major leagues. (Maybe you’d like to do that exhaustive research for me.)
A few years ago, the Beavers used 59 different players in one season – and 30 of them also played for San Diego that same year. As I write this, the 2006 Portland Beavers have used 32 different players, and 24 of them have their names inscribed in what my friend Mike Parker calls “The Book of Life” – that is, the all-time major league baseball register, the playing record of everyone who has seen time in the major leagues.
And by the way, a word of caution. Many people who ask me this question, say, “How many of the Beavers make the pros?” The answer to that question is “All of them.” They’re already professionals. So if you want to sound “in the know,” understand that “pro baseball” means minor leagues and major leagues, and is not synonymous with “major league baseball.”
