This is probably the question I get asked most frequently, and it’s a simple answer. Any time there is an American League affiliate involved in the game, the designated hitter is used, no matter where the game is being played. If two National League affiliates are playing each other, no DH is used. (Amen.) This is true everywhere in Triple-A and Double-A. At the lower levels, the designated hitter is always used.
